COTEAU – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Sally Landry Viator, age 70, at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Fr. Barry Crochet will be the celebrant. Readers for the Mass will be Kennedi Duplantis and Dina Bourque, with Megan Duplantis and Jaden Carriere serving as gift bearers. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Monday from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary service at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
Sally was born January 30, 1943 in New Iberia to the late Delino “Tom” Landry and Elita Baudoin Landry and was one of three children. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette.
Sally was working with the Urology Clinic in New Iberia for over 46 years, and has worked with many physicians, including Dr. Edmond Lamperez and most recently, Dr. Clyde Roy. During those many years, she has care for and helped many people in the community. It was Mrs. Sally’s passion to be there for anyone in need and would go out of her way to make sure her patients, family and friends were well taken care of.
Outside of her work, she was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, was the head of the Confirmation program at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for many years, and was a Eucharistic Minister.
She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Joseph “Joe” Viator of Coteau; her daughters, Jacqueline “Jackie” Viator and fiance’ Mark Gachassin of Coteau, and Jenny Carriere and husband Mark of Youngsville; five grandchildren, Megan Duplantis, Jarren Carriere, Brock Carriere, Kennedi Duplantis, and Jaden Carriere; three great grandchildren, Caine, Olivia and Chloe; her sister, Girdie L. Moncla of New Iberia; a brother, Patrick Landry and wife Janet of New Iberia; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in by her grandson, Rickey Louviere.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Carriere, Mark Gachassin, Brock Carriere, Brad Moncla, Troy Landry, and James Landry. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Louviere, Gene Dronet, Doug Hebert, Patrick Landry, and Pat Domingue.
