A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Russell Joseph Broussard, Sr. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Garrett Savoie will officiate.
Russell will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Graveside Services.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The Men’s Rosary Group will pray the Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday at 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Russell was born on November 19, 1939 in New Iberia, LA and passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 5:53 pm at his residence.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 22 years, Denice Theriot Broussard; three sons, Rusty Broussard and wife Erin; Brad Broussard and wife Kisha and Russell Broussard, Jr.; his grandchildren, Noah Broussard, Cruz Broussard, Brooke Slone and husband Brandon; Tyler Broussard and wife Kristen; Kyler Broussard; Dreyvon Broussard and Tailia Katrones; great grandchildren, Broker Slone, Brixtyn Slone, Briggs, Slone, Rustin Broussard, Kaicyn Broussard, Jaxon Broussard, Khyleigh Broussard, Hadley Broussard and Whitley Broussard; two brothers, Ronald Broussard, Sr. and wife Dianne and Johnny Johnson and wife Nancy.
Russell is also survived by his extended family, Bonnie Broussard, Jake Feller and Orrin Feller who he loved and treated as his own.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Billeus Broussard and Inez Latiolais Broussard; his first wife,Carol Ann Self Broussard and his son, Chad Broussard and his great niece, Lilly Broussard.
Russell proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was well known in New Iberia as the owner and operator of Club La Louisiane and Pancho Villa Lounge, aka “The Trailer”. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time outside, hunting and fishing, playing pool and Bourre’ and going out to flea markets and garage sales. He adored his dogs, Leroy and Cookie, who passed away on Friday. Above all he valued time spent with his family and friends.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Dreyvon Broussard, Noah Broussard, Cruz Broussard, Jarrod Benoit, Russell Sandridge, Chad LeBlanc and Larry “Bo” Erwin. Alex Romero, Paul Dees, Tony Petrose, Brandon Slone, Broker Slone, Tyler Broussard and Kim LeBlanc will be honorary pallbearers.
Russell’s family would like to thank the staff of Traditions Hospice and Chelsi Freyou, Jeanine LeBlanc and Kirsten Broussard; Home Instead and Lisa Threatts and Ms. Cookie. Also, Nelson Badeaux and Priscilla Sugar for all of their care in this most difficult time.
