Born on August 11, 1942, in New Iberia to the late Joseph Presley Delcambre and the late Rita Thibeaux Delcambre, Rudy was raised in a family rich in Cajun heritage. From an early age, he was instilled with a strong work ethic and the value of an honest day’s work. After graduating from New Iberia High School, Class of 1960, Rudy enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country. During his military service, Rudy was trained in Data Processing Machine Operations and learned the intricacies of computer programming—a skill that would be valuable in his later professional career.
Sadly, Rudy received the news of his father’s passing and was honorably discharged to return home and be with his family. Early in his career, Rudy put his computer training to good use in a position with Data Matic, a company that automated banking systems. He later transitioned to the oilfield industry, working in the administrative side of the business, first as head of accounting with Teledyne Moveable Offshore and then as head of payroll with Par Industries.
When the oilfield industry collapsed, Rudy found himself searching for new opportunities. One day, while picking up his clothing from the cleaners, Rudy struck up a conversation with the owner of Henry’s Reliable Cleaners. He offered to buy the business, and thus, Rudy became the owner of Rudy’s Reliable Cleaners. Over the next 38 years, he built a loyal customer base, providing excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere. Rudy’s business thrived, and he became known for his motto of treating customers as they deserved to be treated, making them feel valued and appreciated. He continued running the business until he could no longer do so, officially closing it in 2022.
Outside of his career, Rudy was deeply committed to giving back to his community. He shared his knowledge as a member of the Rotary Club of New Iberia. A devout Catholic, he was a member of both St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, serving in any capacity needed. Rudy also hosted a weekly Rosary group in his home with his dear friends. An accomplished athlete, Rudy excelled in tennis and golf, with one of his proudest moments being winning the City Championship in Tennis. He and his beloved wife, Diana, enjoyed many years together Cajun dancing, attending monthly meetings and dances with the Cajun French Music Association. They also spent time camping and traveling, with Branson, Missouri being a favorite destination.
Above all, Rudy's greatest love was for his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 50 years, Diana, and a dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family recalls his unwavering love and dedication to them and his desire to provide them with everything they needed. His love will forever live on in our hearts, and his memory will be kept in our everyday thoughts. He is not gone from us, only gone on before us. Although we will morn his passing, we hold dear to our belief that we will one day be reunited with him in eternal glory. Until that very precious day, may your soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. We love you.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Diana Domingue Delcambre; their four children, Brent J. Delcambre (Carmen), Nicolle M. LeBlanc, Jennifer Delcambre Reynolds (Jerry), and Mark L.
