NEW IBERIA – A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Rose Mary Rader Walker, age 91, at 11:00 am on Friday, February 24, 2017 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Alexander Albert will be the celebrant. Mrs. Walker will be laid to rest with her parents in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Friday from 10:00 am until time of Mass.
Rose Mary was born June 20, 1925 in New Iberia to the late John Rader and Julie Jacquemoud Rader, and passed away peacefully Monday, February 20, 2017 at Garden View Assisted Living Center.
Rose Mary, known by family and friends as “Flapper”, was a veteran of the Nurse’s Cadet Corps during WWII. Her service to her country brought her to a career in Nursing that would span many decades. She retired from Iberia Parish Hospital (now Iberia Medical Center) where she worked in the emergency room and as night supervisor in charge for 17 years. Later in her career, she worked with various nursing homes, including Consolata, Belle Teche, and Autumn Breeze in Lafayette.
Rose Mary was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and also held memberships with the New Iberia Garden Club, Council on Aging, and as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1982 in New Iberia.
She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughters, Candyce Walker Watsey (Stephen T. Watsey) of Covington and Rebecca Walker Bressler of Indianola, Washington; two grandsons, Ryan Bressler (Jen), and Chris Bressler; a great granddaughter, Grace Bressler; her nephews, John “Maury” Durand (Mary), and Paul Durand (Sasha); and great nephews, Kendall Durand and Dillon Durand.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret “Boo” Rader, and her brother, George “Buster” Rader.
Memorial contributions may be made in Rose Mary’s name to VFW Post 1982, 3301 Cedarwood Drive, New Iberia, LA 70560.
