NEW IBERIA – A funeral service will be conducted for Robert “Robbie” Wayne O’Brien, age 65, at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia. Deacon Keith Duhon will officiate. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of service.
Born in New Iberia on January 19, 1958 to the late Irving O’Brien, Sr. and Grace Romero O’Brien, Robbie passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Ochsners Lafayette General Medical Center.
Robert, better known as Robbie by family and friends, was a kind and generous man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He was an avid outdoorsmen who took every opportunity to be out in nature. He loved fishing, often taking the boat out in the Vermilion Bay or the Atchafalaya Basin, and was a big deer hunter. Robbie also liked collecting and shooting guns. He will be remembered for being a super fan of Transformers and for the undying love he had for his family. Robbie’s children and grandchildren meant the world to him and he enjoyed every moment spent with them. A loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to all, Robbie will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, Casey O’Brien Hammons (Jimmy), Brandon Wayne O’Brien (Ashley), and Kiley O’Brien Landry (Kevin); also, Brianna Meaux, Shayna Bourque, and MaRae’ Romero, who he loved as if they were his own children; sister, Karen Theriot; the love of his life, Shotsay Breaux; grandchildren, Makenzy Landry, Bryson Hammons, Kipp Landry, Luke Hammons, Andrew O’Brien, and Rebecca O’Brien; also, Brie Bourque, Jenee’ Bourque, Aspen Meaux, Sadie Romero, and Cy Romero; and great-grandchild, Demi Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving O’Brien Sr and Grace Romero O’Brien; maternal grandparents, Cecile and Sandy Vincent; brother, Patrick O’Brien; and brother-in-law, Gregory Theriot.
Pallbearers will be Brandon O’Brien, Jimmy Hammons, Kevin Landry, Bryson Hammons, Kipp Landry and Luke Hammons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew O’Brien, Christopher Theriot, David Vaughn, Chris Elmer, Michael Mire, Ryan Cunningham, and Dewayne Self.
