Lucy was born November 15, 1939 in New Iberia to the late Leonice Bourque and the late Idolie Romero Bourque and was the last surviving child of the nine children born to that union. In her early years she worked with various businesses in New Iberia, but after marrying her sweetheart, Roy Pete, she took on the most precious role ever….wife and mother. Her children, Greg and Suzette, reminisced about their mom and how she loved taking care of their home and yard. Mrs. Lucy was the flower person, and Roy took care of the vegetables.
Those that knew Mrs. Lucy, knew of her love for animals. In her lifetime, she cared for many dogs, cats, and birds (that aggravated Greg because they were so loud). Joleen shared that in her later years, she still believed that her dogs were with her and she would sneak food to the side of her bed for them. So they bought her a stuffed dog and she cared for it as if was her very own. Where her mind was not the same because of illness, her heart was still filled with love for her pets. Mrs. Lucy was also an avid sports fan who loved to watch her Saints play. Football, baseball, basketball or whatever sport, she enjoyed watching.
Lucy and Roy also spent time volunteering with the Friends of the Library and supported ARC. Their hearts were generous with love and support. Above all, her greatest joy was the time spent with her family. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as much as they adored her. A gentle soul, soft spoken but stern and true, is now reunited with her family that has gone before her. She leaves a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Greg M. Pete and wife Joleen and Suzette P. Romero and husband Stoney; her grandchildren, Trent Romero and wife Heidi, Stormy Romero, Christopher Pete, Spencer Pete and wife Lani, Emily Pete, Leah Girard, Phillip Girard and Peyton Sellers; and 21 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she is reunited with her husband, Roy Anthony Pete; her son, Dave Christopher Pete; her sisters and brothers, Judith Berard, Robert Bourque, Zoda Bourque, Wesley Bourque, Renaud “NuNu” Bourque, Joseph “Black” Bourque, Helen Worley and Edith Dooley; and her in laws, Albert and Carmen Pete.
