NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for Louis “Jim” James Perkins, age 70, at 11:00 am on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Evangeline Funeral Home with Fr. Alexander Albert officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will take place on Friday from 9:00 am until service time with a rosary being prayed at 10:00 am.
A native of Ruston and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Perkins passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Iberia Medical Center.
Born on October 4, 1947 to the late William Lafay Perkins and Melba S.P. Stephenson, he was an only child. Jim, as he was better known, graduated from Ruston High School in 1966 and went on to attend Louisiana Tech. and Elkins Institute- the former of which he graduated from as an Electronic Technician. Jim worked for both the Ruston power plant and LA Tech. Jim was a caring man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He liked spending time with family and playing with his grandchildren. Family was his life and Jim will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cindy B. Perkins; son, Chris Perkins and wife Kelly; daughter, Mary Ann Romero and husband Clay; grandchildren, Alyssa and Ethan Romero; and beloved cat, Sweetiepie.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Francis F. Stephenson.
Pallbearers will be Chris Perkins, Clay Romero, Lance David, and Tim Boudreaux.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gerald Halpern, Vernis Boudreaux, and Wayne Stephenson.
