NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Dalton L. Babineaux, Jr., the former Lois Dugas, age 76, at 10:30 am on Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday until service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Babineaux passed away at 6:30 am on Friday, October 29, 2010 at her residence.
Mrs. Babineaux and her husband were the owners and operators of Babineaux Marble & Granite, Memorial Park Cemetery and Evangeline Funeral Homes, Inc. until their retirement. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the New Iberia Garden Club, and was very instrumental in the forming of St. Francis Diner where she volunteered many hours. Mrs. Babineaux also belonged to several bridge clubs and enjoyed the time spent with her friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Babineaux is survived by her children, Renee’ B. O’Brien and her husband Dr. William O’Brien of Mandeville; Robert D. Babineaux; Dalton L. “Kippy” Babineaux, III and his wife Michel Simon Babineaux; Simone Babineaux and Nicole Babineaux all of New Iberia; nine grandchildren, Seth Francis Babineaux; Corinn O’Hanlon O’Brien; Charles Austin Segura; Caroline Elizabeth Segura; Shelby Kate Babineaux; Camille Elizabeth Babineaux; Sydney Renee’ Babineaux; Sophie Renee’ Regard and Elise Dalton Regard. She is also survived by one sister, Olga D. Hebert of New Iberia and former daughter in law, Stacy Romero Babineaux of New Iberia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton L.”SuSu” Babineaux, Jr.; parents, Dennis & Corrinne Wiltz Dugas; two brothers, Fred Dugas and Lawrence F. Dugas and three sisters, Lucy D. Guiberteau, Rose D. Poche and Anna Belle D. Halphen.
Pallbearers will be Robert D. Babineaux, Dalton L. “Kippy” Babineaux, III, Dr. William O’Brien, Seth F. Babineaux, Charles A. Segura & David Neustrom.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503; Catholic High School Endowment Fund, 1301 DeLaSalle Drive, New Iberia, LA 70560 and/or St. Francis Diner, 1201 South Hopkins Street, New Iberia, LA 70560.
