NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Kevin Huval, 60, at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will take place at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm. A rosary will be recited by the Men’s Rosary Group at 11:00 am.
A native of New Iberia and resident of Hammond, Kevin passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.
Kevin was born on October 9, 1957 to the late Clarence and Joyce Romero Huval. He was one of 7 children. In 1965, at the age of 5, Kevin began attending the Hammond State School until it closed its doors in 2005. He was proud to attend the school and took part in the many opportunities that were made available to him while there. Kevin even ran in the school elections where he campaigned for president, and won. He was an advocate for the mentally handicap and even served as a representative for the Mentally Handicap of Louisiana in 2006-2007. Some of his proudest moments were competing in the Special Olympics where he brought home many gold and silver medals. After leaving the Hammond State School in 2005, Kevin moved into the Trippi Group Home in Hammond, LA where he lived out the rest of his life.
Kevin was a joyful and loving person who brought happiness to all those around him. He was a joy to be around and lighted up the room with his infections smile. Kevin enjoyed movies- especially Home Alone 2, watching TV shows like The Three Stooges and Gilligan’s Island, and music. A loving son, brother, and friend, Kevin will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his step parents, Chester Sr. and Gale Huval of New Iberia; siblings, Daniel Huval and wife Julie of Vinton, Jude Huval of Bakersville, CA, Connie Cormier of Vinton, Cristal Cormier and husband Glenn of Vinton, Norma Granger of Vinton, Chester, Huval Jr. of New Iberia, Cory Huval and Nora Kipp of New Iberia, and Dodi Huval and fiancé Scotty Gachassin of New Iberia; uncle, Laurence Huval; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Joyce Romero Huval; brother, Hal Huval; step-brother, Sean Huval; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Cormier.
Pallbearers will be Chester Huval, Sr., Daniel Huval, Cory Huval, Chester Huval, Jr., Cade Henderson, and Jeremy Huval.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Granger, Drew Granger, Scott Romero, Russell Romero, Darren Romero, Brad Romero, Mitch Romero, Corey Romero, Glenn Cormier, Lawrence Huval, Alvin Huval, and Rusty Romero.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
