Katherine Dartez Rogers was born April 5, 1945 in Iberia Parish to the late Lelis Dartez and Enola Savoy Dartez. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2014 with her family at her side.
Katherine, known by family and friends as “Kate” was a longtime resident of Avery Island. For years, she cared for many of the children while their parents worked on the Island. In her most recent years, Kate was a tour guide for Jungle Gardens and loved her job. She was the perfect person for that job because of her ability to speak French and her outgoing personality.
Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family. Kate enjoyed spending time out on the water, whether it was riding in the airboat or shrimping while the kids swam. She was also an extraordinary cook and shared many wonderful meals with family and friends. All of those memories, as well as her beautiful smile, will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Raleigh J. Rogers of Avery Island; her children, Vickie Lee R. Oubre (Timothy Oubre) of Lafayette, Tanna R. Dooley (Dale Dooley, II) of Delcambre, Lynn A. Rogers (Melissa) and Jade J. Rogers all of New Iberia; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Nicole Oubre Doucet (Brody), Natalie Oubre Frank (Chris), Lauren Dooley, Blake Rogers, Devin Rogers, and Rayley Rogers; and her brother and sister, Herbert “Boo” Dartez (Betty) and Janice Delcambre (Richard) all of New Iberia.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert “Pat” Dartez; and two sisters, Mary Alice Perry and Barbara Dartez.
The family would like to thank the Staff of St. Joseph Hospice, especially Chris and Carla, for their care and compassion shown to Kate.
