NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Robert “Chick” Blanchard, the former Joy Ann Fleming, age 89, at 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Langlois officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Wednesday from 11:00 am until time of service.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Blanchard passed away at 7:01 pm on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Blanchard was a bookkeeper for many years. After her retirement she became very involved at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister; was a member of the Altar Society, was active with Martha’s Group, distributing communion to the sick and homebound and served as a sacristan for more than 12 years.
Her love for the outdoors was evident in her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She was an excellent cook that processed all of the food grown in her garden.
She loved spending time with her family and loved dancing with her husband.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Joy and husband Gerald Judice and Dawn Blanchard Romero of New Iberia; sons; Robert Joseph Blanchard and Sheila of Eunice and Edwin Paul Blanchard and Michelle of New Iberia; three granddaughters, Kelli Rouly and Rusty; Whitney Blanchard and Danielle Webb and Brock Latiolais and three great grandchildren, Maddi Rouly; Leighton Rouly and Gabriel Latiolais.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Chick” Blanchard; parents, Thomas and Aline Pennison Fleming; four brothers, Andrew, Raywood, Richard and Roy Gale Fleming; five sisters, Gladys Smith, Mildred Abbott, Aline Mouton, Wanda Gautreaux and Helen Boulet.
