NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Joseph Scardino, Jr., age 85, at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Derise officiating. Interment will be held at Holy Family Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post #1982.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Tuesday and remain open until service time.
A native of Grosse Tete and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Scardino passed away at 10:43 pm on Friday, May 9, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Scardino was a veteran of U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict and was also an MP in New Orleans. He was employed with Loffland Brothers and retired after more than 25 years of service. After retiring he became the owner/operator of Mechanical Services. Mr. Scardino was a member of the American Legion Post #0401 and served as the Mayor of Grosse Tete. He was an avid LSU fan and was a season ticket holder, most of all he adored his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy Rivet Scardino of New Iberia; daughters, Danette Romero and husband Russ Romero, Tranaci Russo Broussard and husband Neil Broussard, Lori Hughes and husband Howard Hughes; grandchildren, Barid Russo, Bevin Russo, Beau Russo, Caroline Romero, Rusty Romero, Emily Hughes and Mallori Hughes; great-grandchildren, William and Fishcer Romero; sisters, Patricia Rich of New Iberia and Dorothy Huffman of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Scardino, Sr. and Nativa Steib Scardino.
Pallbearers will be Neil Broussard, Russ Romero, Howard Hughes, Barid Russo, Bevin Russo and Beau Russo.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Gauthier, Landon Gauthier, Billy Savoy and Rusty Romero.
