NEW IBERIA – Memorial Services will be conducted for Jason Ray Smith, age 51, at 11:00 am Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Keith Landry officiating. Inurnment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Saturday until service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Jason passed away at10:30 am on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his residence due to complications with diabetes.
Jason was born on February 1, 1966 to Gale Louviere Smith and Kenneth Smith. Gale married David Soileau in 1976, he took on the role as father to all of Gale’s children, and did an amazing job. Jason grew up with his two sisters’ in Belaire subdivision, where he enjoyed spending time at friends and relatives, fishing and being outdoors on the levee. He loved Nascar racing, was a huge fan of Kyle Busch and enjoyed the race he attended.
Jason was a kindhearted person who would go out of his way to help others, including acting as a father for his sisters’ children. He was a jack of all trades, and enjoyed succeeding at things people thought he could not. His smile emulated life and those who knew him are forever blessed to have known him.
He is survived by his stepfather, David E. Soileau, his sisters, Stacey L. Broussard and husband Ed Broussard and her children, Zachery Broussard, Chelsie Broussard and Hagan Broussard; Chrystel K. Smith and her children, Callie Perez, Margan Nixon, Blake Delahoussaye, Brittanie Messer, and their nine children.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gale Louviere Soileau and his father, Kenneth Smith.
Greg Lohr and Ron Rouley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
