Gil Chavez

LOREAUVILLE – A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Gil Chavez, age 70, at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Buddy Breaux will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church from 12:00 noon until time of the Mass.

A native of Denver, Colorado and resident of Abbeville, Gil passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Gil was a project manager having worked in the oil and gas industry. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying and traveled to many places throughout the world. He was also a member of a tennis club in Lafayette, and enjoyed boating and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Judice Chavez of Abbeville; his children, Kerry Chavez and Francie Gonzales; a brother, Bob Chavez of Utah; and a sister, Rose Tyner of Denver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Ruth Herrera Chavez; and his brothers and sisters, Patsy Cruz, Marcella Chavez, George Chavez, and Jose Chavez, Jr.
