NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. Dorres Lucius Romero, age 84, at 2:30 pm Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Evangeline Funeral Home with Deacon Theo Landry officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Saturday from 10:30 am until time of services. The Men’s Rosary Group will recite the Rosary at 1:00 pm.
A native of Abbeville and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Romero passed away at 4:18 am on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Garden View Assisted Living.
Dorres, from the age of 16, has always been a hard worker. He began his working career working for Mr. Harold LaBauve at LaBauve Bicycle Shop. His love of being able to repair things brought him to a long and successful career as the south’s first Certified Mercury Master Mechanic, working with Himel Marine.
Dorres was not a man of many hobbies, but enjoyed camping. He and his wife were able to visit all of the National Parks in the US as well as in Alaska, but camping in Great Smokys National Park was one of their favorites. Dorres leaves behind many fond memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Annabelle Romero of New Iberia; three children, Sherry Bell and husband Clifford of Hernando Beach, FL; Barry Romero and wife Debra and Lori Guillory and husband Kevin all of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, Beau Romero, Karen Hernandez Maldonado, Merrick Romero, Simone Strong, Taylor Guillory, Karli Guillory and Nicole Bell; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Cormier and husband Richard of Lafayette and his sister in law, Eunice Romero Pellerin of New Iberia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Aline Viator Romero; one son, Marcus Romero; four siblings, Leroy Romero, Raywood Romero, Earline Van Brocklin and Wilton Romero.
Pallbearers will be Beau Romero, Kevin Guillory, Clifford Bell, Merrick Romero, Charlie Strong and Kevin Romero.
Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Romero and Kerry VanBrocklin.
