Debbie was born March 7, 1960 in New Iberia to Deanna Primeaux John and the late Sliman Joseph John, and passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Iberia Medical Center with her family at her side. She was 58. Debbie was the oldest of five daughters and made growing up in the John household a fun time. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every day as if it were her last and feared nothing. Her best attributes were her kind heart and infectious laugh. And if you didn’t know her or had never met her, she made sure to get to know you and you were her friend for life after that. Debbie also was very talented in the kitchen and was a great cook. She measured nothing and prepared a meal to feed as many as she could and it was great. She leaves a legacy of love and many wonderful and fun memories that will be kept in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Rest well Debbie. Until we meet again.
She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Dickerson-Cormier; her son-in-law, Elmo John Cormier; her only grandson whom she adored, Landon John Cormier; Jillian Dickerson Landry, whom Debbie looked upon as her own daughter; her mother, Deanna Primeaux John; her sisters and their spouses, Anne John Menard and Steve, Elaine John Boss and Bryan, Roxie John Boudreaux and Buddy and Patrice John Pellerin and Kenny; her niece and nephews, Gabrielle Boudreaux, Tommy Menard, Angelo Drago and Collin Pellerin; her dear friends, Walter Reaux, Cecilia Mitchell, Carolyn Doumit and Wanda Cormier; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who all loved her.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Sliman Joseph John; and her grandparents, Elma Crawford, Dalton Primeaux, Saleem John and Latifie John.
It was Debbie’s request that her family serve as pallbearers and those having the honor are Elmo and Landon Cormier, Tommy Menard, Angelo Drago, Buddy and Gabrielle Boudreaux, Kenny and Collin Pellerin, Bryan Boss and Steve Matte. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Landry, Lee Theriot, and Gill and Darby Primeaux.
The family would like to express their heartfelt and sincere gratitude to 2nd floor staff of Iberia Medical Center for their care, to Debbie’s cousins Mary Doumit Barrilleaux and Ponny Foti, and her friend Tina Leleux Boudreaux for always being there for her. God Bless you all.
