Cindy is survived by her second son Jason, youngest daughter Amy, and their respective families who live in New Iberia. Jason and his wife Julie have two children, Luke and Jaci. Amy and her husband Shawn have three children, Cody, Kipp, and Kyra. Cindy's oldest son Armand Joseph, who moved to Japan long ago with Cindy's blessing, has three daughters: Kiyoko, Mariko, and Yumiko, the last of which gave Cindy her great-grandson Haru. She is also survived by her brother Bobby Abecasis.
Cindy's husband Armand Juan Suarez passed away in 2009, and is interred at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, where she will also be laid to rest. Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Clerphe “J.C.” Valls and Clarice Olsen Valls, and her sister and brother, Phyllis Santillanes and Gerald Valls.
Cindy was born on Sept. 23rd, 1946 in New Orleans. She graduated from Riverdale High School in Jefferson, LA in 1964. On August 7, 1965, Cindy married her husband Armand Juan, or "A.J.," as he was affectionately known to co-workers and customers. They met at the drugstore where A.J. worked as a pharmacist, and where her father worked as well. She lived in Kenner, LA until 1981, when she moved with her family to New Iberia, near her father Joseph Clerphe "J.C." Valls. During that time, Cindy helped her father in his local business, Valls Grocery.
In her early days, her hobbies included raising show dogs, where she was a founding member and past president of the Boxer Club of Louisiana, and visiting with her friends in the Bayou Boogie Van Club of Greater New Orleans. Late in life she spent her free time visiting her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Grammy”, watching their performances at dancing, sporting events, band, and theatre, and going to the casino. She had a gentle, humorous nature, and was a great listener. Her children would often have long, heartfelt conversations with her, knowing that she would always be glad to offer guidance and support.
