NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Catherine Land, age 69, at 9:30 am Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Charles Langlois will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 9:00 am.
Catherine, affectionately known as “Cat”, was born in Morgan City on December 6, 1944 to the late Slater Land and Louise Breaux Land. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at her residence with her dear sister at her side.
As a child, Cat lived briefly in New Iberia before her family moved to New Orleans. While in New Orleans, she was a governess caring for a family. She returned to New Iberia in 1979 and began working in the restaurant business and managed several restaurants. As a hobby, she enjoyed painting and reading. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her sister, Susan Ann Land of Kalispell, Montana; two nieces, Wendy Patterson and husband Greg of Angleton, TX and Laura Shaw and husband Nathan of Missoula, Montana; two nephews, Bruce Field and Bryan Field both of Houston; and five great nieces and nephews, Julie, Tammy and Thomas Patterson, and Jake and Aaron Shaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
