Betty was born on December 24, 1931, in the family home. Her parents were Thomas Hunter Greer, Jr and Verta Needham Greer.
She married the love of her life Donald Howard Thomas on July 15, 1950, after a short courtship. Many said it would not last, but they had been married 68 years when Don passed away. They enjoyed their life together raising 7 children. Life was never boring. Best known as Memaw and Pepaw to both their earthly and church family, they were examples of Christians who loved God and others. They would do anything for anyone. They loved traveling, caring for family and helping others. Memaw will be deeply missed. Her words of wisdom: Be slow to anger. Listen to the other person’s side without interrupting.
She is survived by sons Michael Thomas of New Iberia and Kenneth Thomas of Houston, TX; daughters Sarah Holcomb of New Iberia, Carroll Thomas of New Iberia, Sandy Williams and husband Charlie of Katy, TX and Donna Dingler and husband Steve of Jacksonville, AR; brother-in-law Garry Thomas and wife Betty of Weatherford, TX; sister-in-law Daine Thomas of Alvin, TX; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Verta Greer; husband Donald Thomas; daughter Linda Kay Thomas O'Brien; sons-in-law, Brian O'Brien and Hardie Holcomb, Jr.; brothers Charles Greer and his wife Ruth and Jim Greer and his wife Vern; and brother-in-law, Larry Thomas.
The family would like to thank her caregivers who took care of her needs Becky Etienne, Donna Watterson, Jana Trahan and Betty Druilhet. We would also like to thank the staff at Traditions Health who helped with the last steps of her journey.
