NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Fulton Paul Hebert, the former Alice Hebert, age 98, at 2:30 pm Friday, May 12, 2017 at Evangeline Funeral Home with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 8:30 am until service time at Evangeline Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am.
Alice was born on March 20, 1919, a native of Iberia Parish and resident of New Iberia. She passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at her residence.
Alice was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society where she was named “Lady of the Year” in 1966, and the Third Order where she was professed as a Lay Carmelite in 1968. She was so giving of her time, teaching CCD classes and visited one to two nursing homes every month until her husband’s stroke.
During World War II, she worked in the tabulating department of Consolidated Steel Corporation in Orange, Texas. She was present for the launching of the U.S.S. Charles Ausborne for the United States Navy on March 16, 1942. She also attended the commissioning ceremonies for the U. S. Walton on September 4, 1944.
Mrs. Hebert loved traveling so she joined the Gloria Mundi Travel Club. She booked their yearly tours and was able to visit forty nine states and Canada.
She is survived by her son, Fulton Charles “Charlie” Hebert and wife Marnell “Nell” Crouchet of New Iberia, grandson, Anthony Paul Hebert and wife Melanie of Ponchatoula; granddaughter, Nicole “Nikki” Judette Hebert of New Iberia, great grandchildren, Malory Hopkins and husband Randy of Monroe and Tyler Comeaux and wife Kali of Edelweis, Germany; and great great great grandchildren, Harper and Zoe Hopkins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fulton Paul Hebert; parents, Ovide and Elvine Theriot Hebert; sisters, Mrs. Roy (Viola) Degeyter, Mrs. Louis (Hazel) Broussard, and Mrs. David (Irene) Landry; and brothers, Junuis, Vernest “Gam”, Doris, Lester, Murphy, Paulton, and Stanley Hebert.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Hebert, Mark Gulotta, Roger Hebert, Richard Landry, Tyler Comeaux, and Charles Hebert.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Boudreaux, Arvers Hebert, Harvey Broussard, Louis Broussard, Rudy Hebert, Gerald Landry and Randy Hopkins.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Sagrera and his staff; Lourdes Hospice, especially her nurse Gary and her sitter, Shemeika Marks for their care and compassion of Mrs. Alice.
