Ruth was born in Forest City, IA, and raised on a farm. She is the second oldest of six children. While on the farm, she often drove the tractor, bailed hay and fed the lambs and baby pigs. She moved into the city and lived with her grandmother, Andrea Bergen, for her high school years so she could go to school and take part in school activities such as cheerleading and choir. Ruth learned to cook, take care of a home, and grocery shop while living with her grandmother. She loved music. She and her brother, Ron, often sang at local weddings and funerals.
Ruth moved to the Twin Cities after graduation and worked as a secretary at Arthur, Daniels and Midland. She was set up on a blind date with John by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann & Darwin DeRosier.
Ruth and John were married on September 21, 1963. The lived in Crystal, MN, and started an accounting firm together; JT Kubinski & Co. Later they moved to Plymouth and lived on Bass Lake in a home that was made for entertaining. Often times, you’d find Ruth cooking for 100 people at their wild game dinners, pool parties, and annual cookie bakes. Her love of cooking was passed on to her children and grandchildren as well.
They were long time members at Golden Valley Country Club where they spent many days golfing, dining and entertaining clients. GVCC was a second home to Ruth, John and the kids. Once they permanently located themselves in Florida, they joined Bonita Bay Country Club and enjoyed golf, tennis and their social membership with old and new friends.
Together, Ruth and John traveled the world. They flew the Concord to Paris, danced next to Princess Grace and Prince Ranier in Monaco, and spent numerous vacations in Italy with family and friends.
Ruth’s favorite place to be was in her beautiful home in Bonita Springs, FL, where she lived nine months out of the year. She enjoyed playing golf, going to lunch and dinner with friends, playing cards with girlfriends and shopping. She spent the last five years with her companion, Bob Kulof. They enjoyed taking cruises and spending time with friends.
Ruth will be remembered as a classy lady who adored her children and grandchildren. She valued her friendships and loved to share her passions with everyone. She will be greatly missed.
