Phyllis Marie Hussey Pierce

Phyllis Hussey Pierce (née Kostecky), 82 of Columbia Heights, went home with Jesus her Savior on Friday, November 25, 2022. Loving mom, grandma, Gigi, and sister, she is deeply loved and missed by Monica (Philip), Michelle, Monique (Mo), and Tom; Jesseca (Cortlin) and Pierce, Lulua (Sal) and Aya; sisters Barbara and Gretchen (Tom), and brother Daniel (Reta); step-children Robert (Terri), Nancy, Greg (Kathy) and Dawnette (Brian); faithful and protective pup Missy, and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by twin brother David, husbands James Hussey and Donald Pierce, and step-daughter Margaret Alosaimi-Pierce.

Phyllis Marie was born in Minneapolis to Joseph M. and Lucy (Vraspir) Kostecky. The family lived in Hopkins before moving to Sturgeon Lake, MN, where Phyllis graduated from Willow River High School in 1957. She worked in Duluth before moving back to Minneapolis where she met Jim Hussey. They married in 1967 and had three daughters, lived in North Minneapolis and were proprietors of Hussey’s Hockey Hut. Widowed young, Phyllis began a fulfilling career at IDS AmericanExpress/Ameriprise while raising her girls.

In 1984, she met widower Don Pierce and they were married in 1985, much to her girls’ delight. They enjoyed 24 years together, traveling, playing cards and dancing. Phyllis and Don could clear the dance floor; they were an elegant and graceful couple. Phyllis enjoyed the social gatherings and sharing her People magazine subscription with friends at The Legends; the friendships she formed were a source of joy and comfort to her. Phyllis was a talented crafter/embroider, and in retirement enjoyed walking Missy around the local pond, spending time with her grandkids, trips to Florida to visit friends and afternoon tea with her daughters.
