Hilary was born on January 14, 1931, in St. Joseph, MN to Richard and Mary Pierskalla Litchy. He grew up on a farm near Holdingford, MN and graduated from Holdingford High School.
Hilary was united in marriage to Mary Theisen on September 2, 1952, in Albany, MN. They then moved to the Twin Cities and started their family. Hilary worked various jobs at Honeywell for 41 years. Most of that time was spent as a machine repairman until his retirement in 1993. In his spare time, Hilary loved to fix things and work with wood. His countless woodworking projects consisting of benches, tables, picture frames, and other furniture can be found in the homes of all his kids and many grandchildren. He even built a mini, electric car, which was a hit with the children in the neighborhood.
Hilary enjoyed polka music and dancing, traveling, golfing, playing cards, water skiing, fishing, and spending time at the lake. He delighted in seeing his family enjoy the lake cabin he built in 1976.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary; his daughters, Gayle Litchy, Deb Gulden, Karen Ernster and sons, Roger Litchy (Jodie), Mark Litchy (Tina), Jerry Litchy; as well as 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 12th at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 155 County Rd 24, Wayzata. Burial and reception lunch to follow.
