She was born to Leslie and Alyce (Loucks) Ide on May 23, 1938, in St. Paul, MN. At the age of 12, Barbara's family relocated to Minnetonka, where she later graduated from Hopkins High School.
In 1956, she married Richard Nelson, and is survived by their son David of Prior Lake, grandchildren: Zachary, Rebekah, Matthew, Joshua, and Jacob Nelson; and their daughter Krisa of Crystal: step-grandchildren, Ian, Paul (Rachael), Sarra Levet (Justin), Meganne, Sean (Stephanie), Blake and Adam. Additionally, she is survived by seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son-in-law, Mitch McGillis.
Barbara was a cherished member of House of Hope Lutheran Church in New Hope, MN since 1967. She actively contributed to various church activities, including the church library, the annual Lutefisk Supper, crafting banners and decorations, and capturing memorable moments at church events through her photos.
Apart from her religious involvement, Barbara was a passionate genealogist, dedicating over 50 years to researching her family history. She loved exploring libraries and cemeteries, as well as assisting others in their endeavors to trace their ancestors.
Primarily, Barbara was dedicated to her family. Whether planning celebrations or assisting her daughter in their craft and vintage business, she consistently surpassed expectations for her loved ones. She supported and participated in the Scouting program during her son's tenure, until he achieved his Eagle Scout designation. Barbara also loved going to black powder rendezvous and camping trips with her family.
A visitation for Barbara is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at 10 am, with a service to follow at 11:00 am at House of Hope Lutheran Church, 4800 Boone Ave N, New Hope, MN 55427. A light luncheon will be provided at the church subsequent to the service.
