Anne was born on September 1st, 1933 to Robert and Margaret (Lindberg) Stultz. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1955 with a degree in Social Work. Published books included Tales of Spirit Mountain, a Narrative History of Duluth, Minnesota, a collection of stories depicting the lives of Ojibwe Indians and early pioneers in the Lake Superior region, and ...with Safety for all…Minnesota Safety Council: A Fifty-Year History. She was a writer and editor for Duluth Budgeteer and Skyworld Duluth News newspapers, and Lake Superior Magazine where one of her articles won first place, in the historical category, in a Minnesota Press Women contest. She was a member of the Duluth Junior League, the Minnesota Historical Society, Toastmasters, and the Duluth Manuscript Club. In 1978, she found and fell in love with Richard Crooks, and they stayed happily married for 44 years.
Anne could always be seen with a book in her hand. She had a passion for reading, speaking, research, and writing, and spent many of her years working on historical fiction novels. She also spent several years writing life stories as a small business. She had compassion for others and took an active interest and role in mentoring and helping young women with addictions and other issues. Her Christian faith shined through and spilled into the lives of those around her. She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins, but she especially loved routing for the Golden Gophers women’s basketball team. She was a blessed encourager as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Anne is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margaret; her sisters, Martha (Stultz) Skyberg and Sara (Stultz) Knutson; and her sons, Jonathan Bailey and Charles Bailey.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Crooks; her brother, Robert (Kathy) Stultz; children, George (Sharon) Bailey, Dana Bailey, William Bailey, Margaret (Bailey) Hamlin and husband Mark Hamlin; daughter-in-law Mary Jo (Peterson) Bailey; 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
