Robert "Yogi" Scheffold of Pearl River, NY passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Yogi was born on October 18, 1944 in the Bronx, NY to Frederick and Marie Scheffold. Yogi, as he has been known since kindergarten, grew up in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx and was a graduate of Samuel L. Gompers Technical School. His whole life Yogi excelled at anything related to cars. His love of all things fast led him to the race track where he built and raced corvettes in B production, winning multiple races and winning the Vanderbuilt cup in 1976 and 1977. It was there where he earned the name The Flying Bear. In 1968, he married the love of his life Kathleen Plevik. He was an owner operator of Soundview Auto in the Bronx for over 40 years where he worked with his son Joseph.
Yogi’s passion for helping others led him to enlist in the United States Marines in 1967, and several other community endeavors. With his passion for driving fast, he owned every car imaginable but his love was corvettes, especially his pair of 1963 Split Window Stingrays,
Yogi was a proud member of Seaweed Yacht club where he served as Commodore. He had many boats over the years, all named the FLYING BEAR and achieved his dream when he and Kathy bought a 50' SeaRay. They went on many trips and spent some of their most cherished days on the Hudson River where he passed down his love of boating to his son Joseph and daughter Deborah.
Yogi loved spending time with his friends and family telling stories, eating ice-cream and passing down car knowledge to anyone that would listen. He loved spending family vacations in Lake George boating and enjoying the water.
Yogi was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Marie, and his brother's Claude and Harold Scheffold. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Kathleen Scheffold, his son Joseph and his wife Michele Scheffold, his daughter Deborah Collorafi and husband Chris, grandchildren Joey (Jackie) Scheffold, Ashley Scheffold and his great grandson Joseph (Jojo) Scheffold, his sister Florence Mastellone along with many beloved friends.
