On Sunday, October 8, 2023, William E. Tyler passed away peacefully at the age of 76.
William (Bill) was born in New York city to his loving parents Mary and Walter Tyler. He graduated Cardinal Hayes High School and married the love of his life, Bridget, on February 23, 1969, at Corpus Christi church.
Bill and Bridget resided in Manhattan prior to settling in Nanuet for 20+ years where they raised their three children. Although a tried-and-true New Yorker in his heart, Bill and Bridget retired to Matamoras PA for the past 18-years.
One of New York’s strongest, Bill served the city of New York on the Sanitation department like his father, two brothers and grandfather. He chose this profession when he was 5-years old. After 20-years of service, he moved into the private sector and started his own successful business.
Bill was very proud to be an American and joined the Sons of the American Legion in Pearl River, Ny. He loved the Mets, and he was an avid Giants fan. And like his wife, he enjoyed his canine friends over the years (Bandit, Lucky, Sophie, Cody, and in the latter years Tippy and Jake). Bill had many long standing, lifelong friends Jack Tully, Joe and Maggie Tully, Richie and Kelly Waldron, John and Carol Enders; and Joe and Kelly Hoehmann. All these friendships were very meaningful to Bill; and the Tyler family is most grateful to Joe and Kelly Hoehmann who stood by Bill and Bridget for 30+ years.
Bill had 37-years of sobriety. And a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he had the opportunity to help many of his fellows along the way.
Bill’s greatest joy and pride was his family. He was a loving and dedicated husband to Bridget for 52+ years. And as a loving dad, Bill always wanted the best for his children and, like his wife, he stressed the importance of a good education.
When he was blessed with his first grand-child, Julianna, he became known lovingly as Grandpy! And he spoiled her with love, affection, and silliness.
Bill is predeceased by is wife Bridget (2021); and he is survived by his son Timothy, his daughters Jennifer and Teresa along with his daughter-in-law Jodi (Tim) Tyler, and his son-in-law Jesse (Jennifer) Bravo along with his granddaughter Julianna Bravo; and his grandson Jamil Bravo.
He is also survived by his cousins Larry and Marge Lioi, Tina and Frank Servidio, and Lawrence LaGumina.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law’s Margaret Jordan and Joan Reilly, his brother-in-law’s James and John Morgan, his sister-in-law Mary (Peter) Morgan. In addition to many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bill was preceded in death by his siblings Tom Simenson, Robert Simenson, Lorraine Simenson and his brother-in law Peter Morgan and his sister-in-law’s Mary Dadario, Susan Hill, Anna Garvey.
Family will receive friends on Monday Oct 16th from 5:00-9:00pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday Oct 17th at 10:00am, at St. Anthony’s Church in Nanuet.
