William (“Bill”) Joseph Galvin of New City, NY, 79 years old, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2018. Bill was a lifelong resident of New City. He was born on August 30, 1938 to William and Mary Galvin. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School in Highbridge and graduated from All Hollows High
School in the Bronx, 1956. At the age of 14, he met the love of his life, Maureen and married her on
November 2, 1957. They moved to New City in December, 1969, where they raised their five children.
They enjoyed their 60 years of marriage in the same home as they watched their family grow to include
15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Bill’s first job as a young teen was selling peanuts and hot dogs at Yankee Stadium, home to his favorite
baseball team. He became a wire lather in 1958 and was a member of Metal Lathers Local Union No. 46
until his retirement as a Superintendent in 2008. Bill was an active Parishioner at St. Augustine’s RC
Church and served on the Parish Council for 30+ years. He founded S.A.S.A.L. at St. Augustine’s School,
an athletic league for the students there. During those 30+ years, he was the head of St. Augustine’s
CYO program, as well as participated in the state-wide CYO program. He was a generous benefactor to
Albertus Magnus High School. Bill lead his life in deep religious faith and love for his family. He was an
avid sports fan and enjoyed involving his children in weekly family football picks. He loved being
surrounded by his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Maureen, his five children, Billy, Maureen, Timmy, Ellen and Janet, 15
grandchildren, Maureen, Tracie, Andrew, Joseph, Colleen, Christian, Monica, Laureen, Meaghan, Nicole,
Julia, Jessica, Daniel, Aedan and Jason, and great-grandchildren, Liam and A’mayah. Also surviving are
his siblings, Marie, Eugene and Dorothy. He is predeceased by his sister Joan.
Family will receive family and friends on Thursday, June 28th from 7-9pm and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at
Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10am, at St.
Augustine’s Church, New City, followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to the United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956
