William R. Ekbom, a longtime resident of Garnerville, NY entered into rest on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Nyack Hospital at 90 years old. The son of William and Mildred Ekbom, he was born on March 13, 1933, in the Bronx. He served in the Navy for four years and shortly after met his wife, Eileen Waugh. They married in January of 1957 and shortly after Eileen and Bill moved from New York City “upstate” to Rockland County to raise their young family of two children. William worked at the Daily News for 35 years retiring at the ripe age of 60. He loved to spend his summers in Lavallette, New Jersey, and after retiring Bill and Eileen wintered in Naples, FL with family and friends. Bill loved to bet on horses in Saratoga, was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and Giants, and loved spending time with family and friends. He also frequented his local Elk’s Lodge and served as an Exalted Ruler from 1983-1984. Survivors include his son, Steven (Donna), and his daughter Kathleen. Grandchildren Steven (Jess), Jaclyn (Brian), Kristin (Matt), and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Tommy (Linda) and sister Diane. He also had many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Eileen, his siblings – Ron and Joan, and his son-in-law Mark. Calling hours are Monday, June 5th from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. A small gathering will be held at Higgins Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 6th at 10 AM. A burial service will follow at Fred Loescher Veterans Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
