Thomas was born March 7, 1934 to Mary (nee Hannigan) Sullivan and Thomas (Frank) Sullivan of
Haverstraw, New York. Raised in Haverstraw, Thomas graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1951. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Empire State College in Criminal Justice. After high school graduation, he proudly served our country in the United States Navy on the USS Sierra, and upon discharge began a career in law enforcement. After serving as a sergeant in the Palisades Interstate Park Commission Police Department, Thomas transferred to the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Criminal Identification ultimately leading this division as well as the Rockland County’s Arson Investigation Unit. In addition to his successful law enforcement career, Tom was a dedicated captain in the Lady Warren Hose Company in Haverstraw, New York, and served as the Chief of the Wayne Hose Fire Company in Stony Point, New York from 1986-1987. He was also a member of the Knickerbocker Engine Company in Rockland Lake, New York. Tom was a Rockland County Deputy Fire Coordinator serving the North Rockland area for over 14 years, and served on the committee for the development of the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona, New York. He has been recognized for over 60 years in the fire service. Thomas was a man of strong faith, blessed with Irish wit, a quiet strength and a passion for helping others, and will always be remembered for his love and dedication to his family. He was proud of his Irish heritage, enjoyed researching his genealogy, and spent many hours restoring antique fire trucks.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Regina (nee Brophy) Sullivan, daughter Maureen Sullivan Murphy (Michael), sons Thomas Sullivan (Sue) and Brian Sullivan (Lisa), and grandchildren Michael Murphy, Courtney Murphy, Alex Sullivan and Lauren Sullivan. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Sullivan, sister, Mary Sullivan, and brother, Robert Sullivan (Janet). He will be dearly missed by his many brothers and sisters in law; Patrick and Mary Brophy, Judith and Alfred Carlson, and Susan Brophy. His many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will especially miss him. He is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Frank Sullivan, and his mother and father in law, Francis and Regina Brophy.
Visitation and firematic services will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main Street, New City, New York on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point, New York on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 10 a.m. Internment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Haverstraw, New York.
