Ruth John McCarthy of Valley Cottage, NY, formerly of Easton, MD, passed away peacefully, on January 13, 2024. She is survived by her daughters Karen Costantino and Heidi McCarthy, sons in law Tony Costantino and Ed Knyfd, grandchildren Nick Costantino, Meghan Roy Clegg and Erin Carter, and their families, Paul, Crosby and Magnolia Clegg, and Jameson, Micah, Silas and Ezra Carter. She is also survived by her beloved and devoted poodle Annie and an abundance of friends. Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, John B. McCarthy.
Ruth was loved by so many and was affectionately known as Omi.
Born April 24, 1929 in Germany, Ruth had loving parents and five siblings. Difficult times arose during the war, and she endured much hardship, which served to shape her resilience and independence. In her 20s, she met and married a handsome Air Force lieutenant and shortly after began her life in America as a wife and mother. She and John worked, traveled, played tennis, skied, partied with their multitude of friends, and lived life together to the fullest.
Ruth was an avid watercolor artist and was a member of the St. Michaels (MD) Art guild. Her paintings grace the homes of many family and friends.
A funeral service for Ruth will take place on Saturday, January 27 at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Cathedral Easton, 315 Goldsboro Street, Easton, MD 21601. Burial will be private at a later date.
