Rosemarie M Papa

Rosemarie M. Papa of New City, NY, passed away peacefully on November 13th, 2023 at the age of 90 years old. She is survived by her sons Anthony, Gerard, and Louis, her daughter Marilyn, and her daughters-in-law Maria and Susan. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eve, Christian, and Tyler. Rosemarie was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 21, 1932.

Rosemarie received a bachelors degree from Hunter College and a masters degree from Long Island University. She was an elementary school teacher at PS 185 in Brooklyn. Rosemarie played the piano and loved the arts, particularly live theatre. She never missed a Tony Awards on the TV or show at the Theater in the Round.

Rosemarie was a devout Catholic and was always an advocate for treating all people with kindness and respect. As an educator, Rosemarie recognized the value of education; she was beyond proud to see all four of her children receive their higher education degrees and achieve impressive careers. Rosemarie always put her family first, and her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She was an advocate for her grandchildren’s education as well, and for the importance of the arts in their lives. Her grandchildren credit her to this day for their talents in music and writing.

In her older age, even while struggling with Alzheimer’s disease, she never failed to put a smile on the faces of those around her. She had a warm sense of humor and brought light to the lives of many. Her family will always remember Rosemarie as a mother, grandmother, teacher, Catholic, advocate, and trailblazer.

A memorial visitation for Rosemarie will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 S Main St, New City, New York 10956. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St Anthony Parish, 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, New York 10954. An entombment will occur at St Anthony's Cemetery, 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, New York 10954.
