Rita A. Costello

Rita A. Costello (nee Fitzgerald) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 26, 2015. Born July 16, 1938 in the Bronx to Nora (Keenaghan) & Maurice Fitzgerald, Rita was a resident of Nanuet and parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church for over 50 years. Rita attended St. Luke’s school, Cathedral High School as was a proud graduate of St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Nyack Hospital for 30 years in various nursing positions until her retirement in 1996. She married the love of her life, Edward Costello, on May 7th, 1960 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Queens, NY and cherished each other’s company for 52 years. They shared an unwavering dedication to their family and faith. She is survived by her devoted children, her son Edward F. of Flanders, New Jersey, her daughter Kathleen Callaghan and husband Tim of Flanders, NJ and her son-in-law Timothy Heisler of Orangeburg, NY; her cherished grandchildren, Megan, Colleen and Erin Costello, Katie, Tess and Claire Callaghan and John & Megan Heisler; her sisters Sr. Kathleen Fitzgerald of Bedford, NY and Mrs. Eileen O’Brien of Stony Point, NY. Rita was predeceased by her loving husband Edward (2012), her son John (1984) and her daughter Mary Heisler (2010), her mother and father Nora and Maurice Fitzgerald and her sister Mary Boyle. The family will receive friends today, Tuesday, from 2-5 & 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, St. Anthony’s Parish Church, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY at 10am, followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
