Richard (Dick) Moran of New City, NY, 89 years old, passed into the arms of God the Father on July 8, 2019. Richard was born on January 10, 1930 to Edna Caldera (Bami) and Lawrence (Larry)Moran. Richard owned Moran Laundry, was “the mailman” and a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years, and spent 9 years managing the mailroom at Met Life. He was a past-President of the Brooklyn Holy Name Society, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the New City Senior Club. He was known for his constant smile, humor, for his ready laugh (“hoo hoo hoo”), for being a skilled and tenacious coupon clipper, for reading three newspapers each day, for a steady gourmet diet consisting of Burger King, Wendy’s, and pizza, and for rarely missing the early bird special at either the Coach Diner or the Nanuet Diner. Richard is survived by his sons Kevin and Keith, and daughter Beth-Ann (and husband Phil) Simonelli. Loving grandchildren to whom he dispensed “Poppy gum”, include Tara (Simonelli) Smith, Lisa and P.J. Simonelli, Matthew and Justin Moran, Summer Moran, and great grandchild Theodore. Richard is also survived by his sister Dorothy and brother Michael. He was predeceased by his loving wife Peggy, cherished son Richard Jr., and brothers Larry Jr. and Ray. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-6pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, 10am, at St. Augustine’s Church, New City, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven, Hawthorne, NY.
