Richard Guarascio of New City, NY was 89 years old when he entered into eternal rest on December 24, 2021. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 28, 1932 to Mary and Diego Guarascio. He graduated from William Howard Taft High school in the Bronx, where he played basketball and then went on to City College, where he earned a BBA in accounting. After college, he served in the Army during the Korean War. Richard came home for Christmas leave and married the love of his life, Terri, in 1956. They started a family, raising 3 girls while living in the Bronx. At that time, Richard worked as a Controller for a family owned business in NJ. They moved to New City in 1973 and he always said this was one of the best decisions they made. Richard started a second career at Finkelstein Memorial Library as the Business Manager, until he retired in the year 2000. It was then that he got actively involved in several veteran organizations including The Veterans of Foreign Wars – Post 851, The American Legion – Post 1682, and The Korean War Veterans Eagle Chapter. He was also an active member of the New City 1 Senior Club and at one point was their Treasurer. He was able to go on numerous trips and attend many holiday dinners and special occasions with the New City Seniors. He enjoyed reading and bowling in several leagues through the years but he really loved playing his daily pinochle games with the “fellas”. He was the biggest Yankee and Giants fan, often yelling and cheering from his recliner as if they could hear him. Richard was a devoted husband and family man who was cherished by all. He created a legacy and was the best role model for all to aspire to. He touched the life of anyone he met with his broad smile, robust laugh, sense of humor, wisdom, kind and generous spirit, and fierce loyalty. He was such an inspiration and shining example of what true unconditional love looks like.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 66 years, Terri, his 3 daughters, Diane Schneider, Karen and Carol, 4 grandchildren, Lindsey (Michael) Watch, Kimberly (Timothy) Erickson, Dylan Schneider, and Nicole Larsen, 9 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah, Kayden, McKenzie, Logan, Michael, Torri, Leighana, and Easton. He is also survived by his sister Rosemarie Fascianella, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, 1/2/22 from 2-6 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, 1/3/22, 10am, at St. Augustine’s Church, New City, followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
