Michael was born on August 7, 1935, the eldest son of Michael and Josephine (Shortall) McMahon. Michael was a proud lifelong resident of the Bronx, New York, a graduate of Rice High School, and he attended St. Phillip Neri Parish. He worked for The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 45 years where he was a Human Resources Manager at the corporate headquarters in Montvale, New Jersey. Michael took great pride in his work and treasured the friendships he made during his years at A & P.
After his retirement, Michael moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and traveling the world. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Fort Lauderdale. Michael will be remembered for his constant smile, infectious laugh, and will truly be missed by all.
Michael is survived by his companion of 62 years, Thomas "Gil" Colavito; his sister Maureen (McMahon) Callanan; his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Cheryl McMahon; his sister-in-law, Flavia McMahon; his 17 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and great nephews, and many close friends. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Patrick and Vincent McMahon, sister-in-law Patricia McMahon, brother-in-law, John "Jack" Callanan, and a niece Ann Marie McMahon.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at St. Augustine Church, New City, at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4 :00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Higgins Funeral Home, New City.
