Mary T. Fredericks passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 22, 2018. She was 85 years old. Mary was born in New York City on February 17, 1933 to parents Carmela and George Vella. In high school, she was the president of her senior class, (1950), and she was a master seamstress. She met her future husband, John, when she was 15 and they quickly became childhood sweethearts. They married in 1956 and they started their family first in the Bronx, then they moved to Framingham Massachusetts, before they finally settled in New City in 1971. Mary worked for many years for the St Agatha’s Home in Nanuet, NY. Mary was very proud of her Maltese Heritage and she always had an ability to warm your heart with her smile and her kind words. She had an unbelievable sense of humor in every situation. She bravely fought her illness over the past few years and she was an inspiration to not only her family but all those friends and acquaintances she made throughout the years. Mary was also very involved with the St. Augustine’s bible study group and the Clarkston seniors group. Mary or Nana as she was affectionately known as enjoyed many years with her family, especially her grandchildren who meant the world to he, Mary was a compassionate and loving person who will be dearly missed by all.
Mary is survived by her children George (Donna) of Malta, NY, Janet (Glenn) of New City and John (Kathleen) of New City. Her grandchildren Sarah(Carmine), Timothy(Maureen), Kristen(Chris), Kaitlyn(CJ), Stephen(Lauren), Jack, Cole, Matt and Kyle. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Carmine, Teddy, Reagan and Addison. Mary is also survived by her sister Frances Murphy of Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 PM on Tuesday September 25th and 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Wednesday September 26th at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main St. in New City. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Augustine’s Church in New City, on Thursday September 27th at 10am.
