Marie Pettee, 70, formerly of Congers, NY, presently from Scottsdale, AZ, went home to the Lord on Friday, December 30, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Marie will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and teacher. Marie was born March 14, 1941 in the Bronx. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 1962. Marie married Joseph Pettee from Medford, MA in 1968 and moved to Congers in 1969. Marie was predeceased by Joseph in December 2006. Marie was an active member of St. Paul's Church for over 30 years, participating as Eucharist Minister, and most recently, an active parishioner at St. Bernard of Clairvaux in Scottsdale, AZ. She taught her entire career in the South Orangetown School District. The majority of her 35 year tenure was teaching 3rd grade at William O. Schaefer Elementary School in Orangeburg, NY.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. Frank Medici of Estero, FL, formerly of Montebello, NY; and sister, Elizabeth Paci of Blauvelt, NY; three children, Joseph, Jacqueline and John; her daughters-in-law, Charisse and Emily and her son-in-law, Robert, all of Phoenix. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren, Sofia, Jack & Charlie. Marie was admired and loved by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Patricia Callahan, Paul Pettee, Madeline Medici, and John Paci. Marie's many nieces, nephews, and cousins, Paul, Michelle, Colleen, Cynthia, Frank, Mark, Domenic, Michael, Nicholas, Richard, Joan, Michael and their families will miss her greatly.
Marie was a true friend who had a heart of pure gold. All who knew her loved her for her kindness, patience and love. Marie was a uniquely generous person who was always willing to help. There was nothing she would not do for her family. For all these wonderful things and more, Marie will be truly missed and impossible to forget.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, 321 South Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7th at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Congers, with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
