Maria Scaglione

2017 at the age of 85. Born in Toritto (Bari), Italy on March 5th,

1931, she was the daughter of Rocco Casamassima and Teresa Schiraldi

and sister to her five siblings Nino, Oronzo, Isabella, Antonietta,

and Antonia. She married the love of her life, Felice, on April 7th,

1951 and together, they had five beautiful children. On July 10th,

1969 the family began the most important journey of their lives,

leaving their precious home in Italy in pursuit of the American dream.

They settled in the Bronx, where Maria and Felice worked in the

Farberware factory for over twenty years, and continued to plant their

roots in what would now be their new home. Maria’s biggest joy was

being surrounded by her loved ones, cooking and entertaining not just

on holidays, but for no reason other than to be together. She was a

devout Catholic and spent hours a day praying for her family and the

needs of others. She is survived by her daughters Anna (Domenico),

Teresa (Nino), Grace (Olimpio), Isabella (Victor), and Cathy (Frank)

and her sisters Isabella and Antonia. She is also survived by eleven

grandchildren and five great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and

nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Felice, her beloved

grandson Felice, and her siblings Nino and Oronzo. Although Maria

will be missed by all of those who knew her, we know that her memory

will live on forever in our hearts.

Family will receive friends on Friday 2/10 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at

Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be

held on Saturday, 10am, St. Paul’s Church, Congers, NY, followed by

interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Township of Washington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s

Research Hospital.
