With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished gift, Margaret (Peggy) Mary Hogue Hanigan (nee Anderson) of New City, NY. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her adoring family on September 9, 2023. Together with the love of her life, John (Jack) Hanigan for 69 years. The precious mother of Mimi (John) Falkenstern, Anne (Andrea) D’Andrea, John (Nok) Hanigan, James (Maura) Hanigan, Eileen (Gil) Heim, Beth Abt, Michael (Colleen) Hanigan, Mary (Joseph) Mileo. Adored Grandmother to 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret Anderson, and her beloved grandson, Timmy J. Heim. Loving sister to James (Mary) Anderson, and Kathy Donohue. Born in Jersey City, NJ on August 21, 1931. Peggy was a graduate of Fordham University, Iona College and St. Thomas Aquinas University with two master’s degrees in teaching and English. Peggy was a much loved and admired teacher for 32 years at Laurel Plains Elementary School in New City where she touched the lives of many children. Teaching was her life’s passion. A devout Catholic who loved the Lord and served her parish of St. Francis of Assisi as lector and long-time parishioner. Peggy lived her life to the very fullest and gave so much to0 so many. Her light and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and many beloved friends.
A visitation for Margaret will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 S Main St, New City, New York 10956.
