Louisa Mauro, 94, of New City passed away on April 18, 2019. Born on July 24, 1924 to Frederick and Anna Weisinger in the Bronx, New York. At a very young age, her father passed away and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Anna and Erle McDonough.
She was married at St. Benedict church, in the Bronx to her husband Dominic Mauro, Sr. for 63 years who predeceased her in 2003.
She is survived by her sons, Alphonse Mauro and wife Rosemary of New City and Dominic Mauro, Jr. and wife Maureen of Pomona, brother-in-law James Mauro and his wife Bette Lee of Pompano Beach, FL. She was loved and adored by her four nephews, five great nephews and one great niece.
Louisa graduated from Walton (all girls) High School in the Bronx. After graduating, she worked in Manhattan for New York Life Insurance Co. Moving to New City from the Bronx she worked for many years and was retired from BOCES in West Nyack as head of Food Service and a teaching assistant.
Louisa is a life member of the New City Women’s Fire Co. A member of St. Augustine Church, West Nyack Seniors Club and Red Hats. Road trips, cruises, and traveling were her favorite things to do. She enjoyed talking to people and lived life to the fullest. In her spare time, she loved to cook, read, and crochet. As a seamstress she loved to sew and had a room set up for many pleasurable hours of sewing.
Louisa will be missed by her family and numerous friends.
Family will receive friends at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City on Tuesday, April 23 from 2-5pm and 6-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 24, at St. Augustine Church, New City. Burial will follow at Frederick Loescher Veteran’s Cemetery, New Hempstead.
