Loretta was born on April 19, 1937 to Werner and Kunigunde Kranz. She grew up on Hollywood Ave. in the Bronx, and fell in love, literally, with the 5 yr. older, soldier boy next door, William Joseph Hauser (USMC MSgt-Retired). While William was fighting overseas in Korea (1950-51), Loretta continued with her education, graduating from Evander Child's High School in 1954 and attending Hunter College. They were married May 5, 1957 at the Church of Holy Rosary, Bronx NY. After starting their family in the Bronx, they relocated to Nanuet, NY in 1963, and raised three daughters.
Loretta was a homemaker until 1972, when she decided to attend St. Thomas Aquinas College, for a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language Education, then Fordham University for Master's in Education and Ph.D. in Education Administration. Going back to school and teaching was what Loretta excelled at and found her second love. She taught in school districts in Putnam and Westchester Counties before initiating a federally funded Student Support Service Program at Elizabeth Seton College, New Rochelle NY, which then merged with Iona College in 1989. Loretta finally retired from education in 2006.
Loretta had many hobbies: from traveling, to cooking, to crocheting, to dancing, to making hand-sewn teddy bears, and she loved her friends with all her heart. For 80 years, she still kept in touch with childhood friends from the Bronx: Pery (Skarkas) Michalakis and Rosemary (Schaller) Fiorito. Locally, Loretta was a member of the Rockland County Marine Corps – Ladies Auxiliary and long time member and past officer of Nanuet Senior II Club, where she thoroughly enjoyed her weekly visits with all her friends and longed to return.
Loretta was predeceased by her parents, Werner (1988) and Kunigunde (1968), her husband of 57 years William (2014), and her eldest daughter, Donna Hauser-Alvarado (2020). She leaves behind her daughters; Laura Gallagher (John) and Andrea Hauser (Antoinette); grandchildren David Conklin, Jr., Jack Gallagher, and Connie Hauser; great-grandchildren Macayla and Darin Conklin; her sister Trudie Rainone; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews in NY, NJ and in the Bavaria Region of Buttenheim, Germany.
