Julia May Cahillane was born to James and Bridget (nee Lynch) on June 21, 1923, in Manhattan. She was raised in a loving family that included many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her parents, both with generous hearts and spirits, welcomed one and all into their home and this trait was passed on to Julia. When she was four years old, she was joined by James, her beloved brother. She grew up in Manhattan and later moved with her family to the Kingsbridge section of The Bronx. She attended Cathedral High School in Manhattan and then studied at The College of Mount Saint Vincent, graduating in 1945. She formed life-long relationships there, and Julia and her friends were still enjoying each other’s company at their 65th reunion at “the Mount” all those years later.
On June 21st, 1947, Julia married Joseph P. Doyle in St John’s Church across the street from where she lived in Kingsbridge. In 1955 they moved to Rockland County, ultimately residing in Bardonia since 1964; Julia remained in her Bardonia home until her passing.
Julia and Joe raised their five sons and two daughters in an always active household with their children’s friends constantly coming and going. She was a loving, kind mother and a particular favorite among her children’s friends. Julia was noted for her supportive, gentle nature and unfailingly kind demeanor. Her open heart and love for family and friends were passed on to her children. She considered this to be her greatest and fondest contribution.
Julia is predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her brother, James; her son, James; her daughter, Joan, and her grandson, Andrew. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rosemary; daughter Elizabeth Dasher and son-in-law Paul; son Joseph and daughter-in-law Barbara; son John and daughter–in-law Diane; son Thomas and daughter-in-law Theresa, and son Terence.
