John was very proud of his Irish ancestry, hailing from Tipperary and County Kerry. Growing up in the Heights, John was a devout Catholic and a frequent Altar boy at Saint Rose of Lima parish.
John loved all sports, excelling at both Baseball and Track & Field at Bishop Dubois High School.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army, 1957-1959.
John married his childhood sweetheart Ann Marie Clancy and raised their family in the Inwood section of Manhattan. Many a day was spent at Inwood Hill Park watching his children play, taking long walks or just cheering on the neighborhood softball teams. John was a constant fixture at both his children and grandchildren many sporting events. Attending countless Cross Country / Track meets, Hockey, Soccer, Swimming and Dance & Cheer competitions.
John worked as a Design Engineer for 30 years at AT&T and as a Hearing Officer for 25 years for NYS Public Service Commission.
Beloved Husband of Ann Marie (née Clancy) Loving father of John, James and Jeannine, adored grandfather of Conor (Bethany), Brendan, Caitlyn, Donald, Patrick, Sheila, Lauren, Tara, Kelly and Caroline, and great grandfather to John “Jack” Sullivan. Dear father-in-law of Deirdre, Ann Marie and the late Donald McIntyre, brother of the late Margaret Pistilli, Martin, Barbara Walsh and Bartholomew. John will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews and many friends. Reposing Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home New City, NY on Tuesday September 14, 3:00-8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday September 15, 11:30 AM St. Anthony’s Church 36 W. Nyack Rd, NY. Interment to follow St. Anthony Cemetery.
