John Louis Federico, 84 years old, also known as “Johnny”, “Junior” and “Butch” of Nanuet, NY, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. He was born on January 16, 1940, in Brooklyn New York. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
John and his ex-wife Grace had two loving sons, John and Paul. John was a devoted dad who coached his sons Little League baseball team and was a Cub Scout Leader for them. John and his sons enjoyed many summers in Lake George and also enjoyed many winters skiing.
He was a devoted family man with unconditional love for all. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer support to his family and friends.
In his early years, John proudly served in the United States Army Reserves. He then embarked on a successful career path, working at various institutions including Flair Motors and Waldorf Motors as a mechanic in Brooklyn. He eventually became a partner in a gas station on 13th Avenue in Brooklyn for about six years. He also worked in construction, playing a vital role in building Blimpie Stores and Bagels USA. In 1972, John joined the Bowery Savings Bank as a maintenance supervisor, eventually becoming a construction manager and Assistant V.P. Property Manager at Green Point Savings Bank until his retirement in 2004 after 32 years of service.
Outside of his professional life, John had a huge passion for cars and was a bit of a history buff. He enjoyed reading books on various wars and autobiographies. Before he became sick, John enjoyed bowling, skiing and biking.
John had the opportunity to travel with his wife Joyce to several western states and National Parks. They also traveled to several states on the east coast. They enjoyed going to Cape May, NJ every year during Labor Day week. They vacationed to several Caribbean Islands and eventually traveled every winter to their favorite island of Aruba and made a few unforgettable trips to Italy. His retirement treasure was his Audi A5 convertible with which they took many road trips.
John is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Joyce, his adored sons John and Paul, their wives Denise and Mary respectively, his cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Emily and Ella, his dear sister Barbara Caserta, his ex-wife Grace Federico and his nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father John Federico, his mother Theresa Federico, and his brother Nicholas Federico.
Services for John will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956 on Monday, December 9, 2024 with visitation from 4pm to 8pm. A funeral mass will take place at The Shrine Church of St. Anthony, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY 10954 on Tuesday, December 10th at 11:30 a.m. followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery on the same grounds of the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to The Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Wounded Warriors Project, or the American Cancer Society in John’s Memory. John will be remembered as a kind-hearted and dedicated individual who lived life to the fullest and left a lasting impact on the lives of those around him. May he rest in peace.
