John (Jack) J. Barrett of Nyack, NY,82 years old, passed away peacefully on November 4th, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. John was born on November 12 th , 1940, in Yonkers, NY to Elizabeth and John Barrett. Jack grew up in the Bronx and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High school. After which,he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp where he served from 1959 to 1963. After proudly serving his country, Jack followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the New York Police Department. He started in the elite Tactical Patrol Force where he shared the same badge number as his father 483. After a very successful 20-year career, Jack retired from the NYPD as a Detective First Grade in the prestigious Intelligence Division. While working in the NYPD, Jack went to John Jay College at night to get his undergrad degree and afterwards to Pace University for his graduate degree. After the NYPD, Jack entered corporate security. He worked at Merrill Lynch and then US Trust Company where he was VP of Security. After a very successful 20-year career, Jack retired from US Trust Company.
Jack was blessed with a terrific sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and jokes and we loved to hear them. He loved painting, animals, gardening, and his hobbies of coins, watches and cars. Jack is survived by his wife, Sheila, with whom he shared the same birthday and birth year, and his stepchildren Michael (Dottie) and Patricia (Ken) and their children Bridget, Michael, Mary Cate, Patrick, Teresa and Kenny. Jack will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Saturday November 18th 10:00am to 11:00am at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. Mass will follow at 11:30am at St. Paul’s Church, Congers, NY.
