Joan R. Miller

She was an amazing mother to 4 sons, Jeff, Steven, Bruce, and Marc. She was sister to Robert and Arlene Mellon, Adriene, Drew, and sister-in-law to Tina, mother in law to Maya, Jaclyn, and Meredith.

Joan was a loving grandmother to Ashley, Elyssa, Justin, Taylor, Nicholas, Brianna, Christopher, Jack, Scarlett, Reiley, and Logan.

She was an original dispatcher for the Congers Valley Cottage Ambulance Corp., President of the Alert Hook Ladder and Engine Company #3, and Congers Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Mecca Shriners as a Shrinette and Mecca Clown Club, who entertained sick children.

A devoted member of the community, she lived in for over 50 years.

She was an affluent business woman who owned her own travel agency with her brother. There are numerous nieces and nephews who she considered children of her own, and they considered her their second mother. She will find piece in knowing she was loved by all.

A religious service will be held Sunday at 9:30am at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main St., New City, with internment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY. The family will observe Shiva Monday and Tuesday from 1-4pm and 6-9pm at the family home in Congers.

Donations can be made in Joan’s memory to Congers Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, and Congers V/C Ambulance Corp.
