James C. Power, 94, of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday January 6, 2023. He was born in 1928 and fondly considered the Bronx his home, where he was raised and spent many years in the Fordham section (St. Nicholas of Tolentine) and later in the Riverdale section (St. Margaret of Cortona). Jim proudly served in the United States Army before joining the New York City Police Department. His prestigious and honorable 36 year career with the NYPD was spent in a number of commands, but was best known for his leadership and skills in the Detective Borough Manhattan, particularly as the Commanding Officer of Manhattan North Detectives. During his tenure, Jim enjoyed his association with several fraternal organizations to include the Honor Legion, the Holy Name Society, and the Emerald Society. Jim was a man dedicated to his Catholic faith and attended Mass daily until his physical condition no longer allowed him to do so. Devotion, commitment and love of family were qualities by which he lived his life and passed on to his children and grandchildren by his example. He was very proud of his Irish heritage as he was the son of Irish immigrants, John Power, and Norah (O’Connor) both born in county Clare, Ireland. He is pre-deceased by his brother John and sister Margaret (Ahearn). Jim was the loving husband of Patricia Power (Fitzsimons) for 30 years, who passed away in 1985. He is survived by his current spouse of 26 years, Mary Galligan. He is also survived by his children Christopher (Noreen) Power, Mary Kaye (James) Gibson, Gregory Power, Neil Power, and James (Cathy) Power. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Patricia, Maura, Christopher, Brian, Colleen, Kieran, and Faith.
