James C. Murphy Jr. of Stony Point, NY passed away on July 25th at the age of 67. Jim is survived by his wife Jill (nee Gorman), his parents James and Elizabeth Murphy, and his three children and their spouses: Thomas & Margaret Murphy of Mahwah, NJ, Colleen & Brian Dudek of Nanuet, NY, and Bridget & Andrew Bollinger of Mahwah, NJ. He considered his three grandchildren Elizabeth and Anna Dudek, and Abbey Murphy, the light of his life. Jim was the oldest of seven: Bettyann Murphy, Brian Murphy, Rita Murphy, Kathie Coleman, and John Murphy, and predeceased by his brother Kevin Murphy. Jim adored his in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in the Bronx. His family later moved to Crestwood where he attended Stepinac High School. He later graduated from Belmont Abbey College and served in the U.S. Army with the 8th Battalion/26th Artillery in the central highlands of Vietnam. Jim moved his family to Rockland in 1971 when he was hired as an agent for the Allstate Insurance Co. His career lasted 34 years until retirement. Jim was also a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in NYC, Westchester & Rockland, a charter member of Chapter 333 of the Vietnam Veterans of America and served for many years on the board of Children of Mary Nursery School, where his favorite "duty" was to play Santa Claus. Family will receive friends on Thursday and Friday 2-4 & 7-9PM at Higgins Funeral Home New City, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday 10am St. Gregory Barbarigo Church Garnerville, NY. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim's memory to the National Kidney Foundation - NY Chapter (c/o 30 East 33rd Street, Suite 300, New York, NY 10016) or the New Jersey Sharing Network Foundation (c/o 691 Central Avenue, New Providence, NJ 07974).
