James W. McCombs, 57 of New City peacefully went to Heaven on June 20, 2017 at Westchester Medical Center. After a long battle he finally succumbed to a host of complications related to a long-awaited heart transplant.
He was proudly born in Jersey City, NJ to Pat and James McCombs Sr. on September 7, 1959. He married his wife Karen (Bean) McCombs in January 1993.
In 2000 he was elated by the birth of his twin daughters Casey and Sheila. They were the light of his life and he was incredibly proud of their accomplishments and of the amazing young women that they have become. They stood closely by him through his long hospital stay and gave him the best reason to fight so hard until the very end.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Jim is survived by his sister Regina of Maine, his brother Robert of Mass., mother-in-law Marion Bean, brother and sister-in-law Rob and Dawn Bean, their children Erin, Molly, and Bobby, sister-in-law Marilee McCombs, nieces Meghan (Inder) Singh, Deirdre (Hyacinthe) Fallings, and nephew Patrick.
Jim is also survived by the many friends that had become his family ones dating back to his childhood in Jersey City, his football days at Fordham University, his Post Office career and his time in Rockland. He cherished all of these friendships.
He was predeceased by his parents Pat and Jim McCombs, his father-in-law George Bean and his loyal friend Puggles.
He will be remembered for his love of all things sports. He was very proud of his own athletic career at Hudson Catholic High School and at Fordham University. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys, New York Rangers, Notre Dame and Army Football fan.
We would like to give thanks to the very generous family that donated their loved one’s heart to give him a chance at life. We will be forever grateful to you for this selfless act.
Visiting will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Friday, June 23 from 4-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 24 at 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack. Cremation will be private.
